The Massawepie Scout Camps opened in 1952.   The Camps are located in the southeast corner of

St. Lawrence County, NY, within the 110 square mile Town of Piercefield.   Also within the Town,

and close to the Camp, are the hamlets of Childwold, Gale & Piercefield.   For the first two years a

limited postal service was provided at Childwold.   Starting in 1954, service was provided by the

Tupper Lake, NY post office in Franklin County, 13 miles east of the Camp.   The Massawepie Rural

Station PO itself was within the Camp boundaries & on Camp property.

See a 1952 Cover from the Camp in the Corner Card Section of US Covers.

Jamboree mail was transferred to Spokane, WA for processing

using equipment from Coeur D'Alene, ID.

On August 3 the "3" slug turned up missing and no replacement was immediately

available. Inland Empire Philatelic Society had prepared a cachet, 67-50,

with the intent of creating sets cancelled on each of the nine days of the

Jamboree, 08/01 - 09/67. They ultimately proceeded with #18a being the result.

Other users apparently had no problem and produced normally dated Aug 3 cancels.
